What Book Should I Use to Study for the ASVAB?

Over the last several years when I meet with new ASVAB students I like to ask them what they were doing to study for the ASVAB exam up until that point. Many of them say they purchase certain books that give them a false sense of preparedness for the exam. How does this happen? Sometimes the questions in the book are easier than the questions on the actual exam and when the student faces more difficult questions on the exam they aren’t able to answer them. I always feel so bad when I talk to these students because they invested so much time and money into working with books that don’t really prepare them! So, I decided to put together this list of books.

Barron’s

Barron’s is actually my favorite test prep company for almost any subject. What is great about Barron’s is that the questions in the book are much more difficult than the actual ASVAB exam. What does that mean? That when you use Barron’s to study for the test you are preparing with tough questions and you’ll be ready for almost anything. Another great thing about Barron’s is that they break down different concepts by section and give you practice for those specific topics.

Books for ASVAB

Kaplan’s ASVAB Premier

This is a great book because, just like Barron’s, Kaplan does a great job of breaking down different concepts by section. Kaplan gives you short review exams at the end of each subject to help test your knowledge on the subject. The Kaplan book also includes a lot of online resources.

McGraw Hill’s ASVAB

This is an older version of test prep book, it was published in 2013 but I still like to use practice tests from this book to help prepare my students. The book brings several practice tests and sometimes two practice tests from one prep book are just not enough. If you’re looking for extra practice, give this book a shot.

I also have another question about the Math sections. I did not see anything about Mathematic Knowledge in the study guide. That is part of one the four sections that will be on the ASVAB test. Do you have that on the study guide?

Good evening my name is Nicole. I have a few questions. I recently took the ASVAB a couple days ago, once again I did not qualify to join the military. That was my third attempt. I have to wait 6 months to retest. This will be my last attempt to retest before I reached the age requirement. I am desperate. I need you help. I really want to join the military, I don’t want to give up on my dream. Is this legit? Is this real? Can you really help me pass the ASVAB?
